For players and families at Redlands Rays Baseball Club, the new Capalaba baseball lights mean training and matches can continue beyond daylight and fit more easily around school, work and study commitments.
Senior and junior teams across different ages and playing levels can now use Redlands Baseball Park for more evening sessions and night games. The extended hours give members additional opportunities to train, compete and develop without relying solely on the longer daylight available at certain times of the year.
A parent of a club player said access to the fields under lights would make a considerable difference to development. Training and matches can now be scheduled beyond daylight hours rather than being limited to periods when the sun remains out longer.
More Time Around Daily Commitments
The Capalaba baseball lights allow players to take part after work, school or study, making the grounds available for a wider range of evening activities.
Redlands Rays is a family-friendly club with teams across several age groups and levels. The extended hours are expected to support regular training, player development and additional night games for members and the wider community.
The upgrade also gives the club more flexibility when arranging matches and training sessions. Redlands Rays president Ben Reynolds said the improved facilities had created more opportunities for players while strengthening the club’s capacity to hold evening games.
Safer And More Efficient Field Use
The LED system is intended to improve safety for players using the grounds at night. It is also expected to consume less energy and reduce the amount of light reaching areas beyond the baseball fields.
Aluminium wiring was installed instead of copper, reducing the risk of copper theft from the facility.
An aerial view of the completed project shows the upgraded lighting positioned around the baseball grounds. The completion of the works was announced on 19 June 2026.

More Options For Matches And Tournaments
Beyond regular club training, the lighting is intended to help Redlands Baseball Park accommodate more high-level matches and tournaments.
The club believes the improved facilities could support future domestic and international tournaments, while also creating more night-game opportunities for local players and spectators.
Baseball and softball are set to return to the Olympic program in 2028, and advocacy is continuing for both sports to be included in the Brisbane 2032 program. The club expects the upgraded facilities to assist with the continued development of young Redlands Coast players.
The project was supported through the SEQ Liveability Fund under the SEQ City Deal. The Capalaba works are one of three lighting projects backed through the fund, alongside improvements for the Redlands Cricket Association at Wellington Point and the Redlands Softball Club at Ormiston.
