Capalaba Property Disposal Talks Return Behind Closed Doors After Nine Months

A long-running Redland City Council consideration of potential property disposals in Capalaba has returned behind closed doors, nine months after the issue first appeared on the council agenda.

The matter, consistently described as “Potential Property Disposals – Capalaba”, dates back to a confidential session of Council on 12 November 2025. It subsequently appeared among matters outstanding from previous meetings in December and remained there through much of 2026.

While that public trail shows the matter has required further work over an extended period, it reveals relatively little about the land itself. Council’s public agenda descriptions do not identify the Capalaba addresses involved, and the original discussion was conducted confidentially.

A matter that stayed on the books

After the November meeting, the Capalaba property matter appeared on Council’s outstanding-business list on 10 December. It continued to feature during 2026, appearing again in meeting records through the first half of the year and into July.

The outstanding-matters list is used to track earlier council resolutions where actions or further work remain to be completed. An item’s continued presence there does not mean a property transaction has been approved or that a sale has taken place.

Public reporting of the May meeting indicates the earlier resolutions involved more than one parcel of council land. One was to proceed at market value, while another remained on hold pending a further confidential report.

The available public material does not provide enough information to reliably connect those descriptions with particular Capalaba addresses. With the underlying property discussions having been treated as confidential, Capalaba News has not attempted to identify the land by matching limited references against unrelated property records.

The issue returned to councillors in August

The process reached another identifiable point on 19 August, when “Potential Property Disposals – Capalaba” appeared among the outstanding matters before councillors.

The same title also appeared later on the agenda as confidential item 19.4, bringing the property issue back before Council for further consideration behind closed doors.

Property matters can be considered confidential where negotiations, valuations or other commercially sensitive information are involved. Other proposed property dealings also appeared in the confidential section of the August meeting agenda, including matters concerning Redland Bay and Alexandra Hills.

For Capalaba, the return of the item to confidential session provides the clearest indication in the public record that the process was still active rather than simply an old resolution remaining on Council’s unfinished-business list.

The public record only goes so far

Council’s records establish that potential property disposals in Capalaba have been under consideration since at least November 2025 and that work arising from the original decision continued well into 2026.

They do not establish that every property considered will be sold, nor do the public agenda descriptions provide sufficient information to identify the affected addresses. A direction to investigate or progress a potential disposal is also different from evidence that a sale has been completed.

For residents trying to determine what land may ultimately be affected, that leaves an incomplete picture. By 10 September, the public record showed a Capalaba property process that had been running for about nine months and had recently returned to councillors for confidential consideration, but the identity and eventual fate of the properties remained largely outside the public record.
