Capalaba Cheer And Dance Club Takes Four Hawaii Bids And 14 Podiums

From four-year-old tiny cheerleaders to mothers competing alongside their daughters, Bayside Cheer & Dance in Capalaba brought several generations onto the competition floor at the AASCF Battle — and returned with 14 podium finishes and four bids to compete in Hawaii.

The locally owned club took 76 athletes across 18 teams to the competition, with its youngest and oldest competitors separated by more than five decades. Athletes ranged from four to 59 years old, spanning tiny, mini, junior, open and adult cheer and dance divisions.

That breadth was particularly visible among the club’s adult competitors. One Open Coed Level 3 Non-Tumble cheer team included athletes aged from 15 to 43, with two mothers competing alongside their daughters.

A Capalaba Program Across Generations

Bayside Cheer & Dance has reported growing participation in its adult program, including parents and other athletes fitting training around work and family commitments.

The adult teams also contributed to the club’s results. Another Day of Sun won Adult Novice Jazz, while Velocity finished second in Adult Novice Pom.

At the other end of the age range, four-year-old tiny cheerleaders also took part, placing young children in the same broader club program as teenagers, parents and other adult athletes.

Across all divisions, Bayside collected six gold medals, seven silver and one bronze.

Run won Junior Novice Lyrical, Force took first place in Junior Novice Pom and Strut won Junior Novice Jazz. Warriors secured gold in Junior Intermediate Jazz, while Anything For Love finished first in Open COED Allstar Jazz alongside the adult gold for Another Day of Sun.

Breakers, Bad Hair Day, Spark, Velocity, Say Something, Impact and Ocean each finished second. Splash added the club’s bronze medal in Tiny Novice Cheer.

Four Teams Earn Hawaii Opportunities

Beyond the podium finishes, four Bayside Cheer & Dance teams received bids to the 2027 Spirit Royale competition in Hawaii.

Impact and Ocean secured at-large bids, while Say Something received a partially paid bid. Anything For Love was awarded a fully paid bid, one of only two available at the event.

Together, the four invitations accounted for four of the 17 Hawaii bids awarded at the competition and represented the highest number received by any one gym.

The results came against some of Queensland’s larger cheer and dance programs, with Bayside fielding teams across both junior and adult competition categories.

The Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation has operated since 2005, running cheer and dance competitions alongside coach education, accreditation, camps, clinics and judges training.

For the Capalaba club, the competition left four teams holding places for the 2027 Spirit Royale in Hawaii, while its AASCF Battle contingent ranged from children taking their earliest steps in competition to adults continuing to train and compete alongside their families.
